HCSM January Bi-monthly Digest January 16, 2008

Dear HCSM Members,

Happy New Year! We hope the beginning of the New Year went well for you all! Let’s start it off right with some upcoming fun activities and events. HCSM would like to inform all its members that there will be no conference this spring. This decision was voted on by all Executive and Advisory board members. This year we want to focus more on smaller, more consistent activities. We look forward to the conference in upcoming years. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause members. Please contact the board members with any questions or concerns. Also, please keep an eye and ear open for our first event this January! More information will be sent out soon! Thank you for your understanding, cooperation and continuous participation.

II. SAVE THE HMONG : A BENEFIT NIGHT

Hmong Human Rights 2nd Annual Benefit Night
Saturday, January 26, 2008
5 – 9 PM
Lowell Center
610 Langdon Street
Madision, WI

With the ongoing atrocities against the Hmong in Laos, and the apprehension over the forced repatriation of Hmong refugees in Thailand, The Hmong Human Rights Committee at the University of Madison-Wisconsin is proud to present Save the Hmong: A Benefit Night.

The purpose of this benefit is to enlighten society about these issues in hope of bringing peace and justice to the Hmong in Laos and Thailand. Unfortunately since these issues lack public awareness, we want to draw as much public attention as possible to these critical situations. Let it be known that if no one can hear their cries for help, we as a unified Hmong community through our activism can be their voice.

The funds we receive this night will be donated to non-profit organizations that directly aid in the fight for Hmong human rights such as Doctors Without Borders. Although this night will be brief, our passion for the cause is undying. Thus, we know that the night will be a greater success with your contribution. We greatly hope that you all can attend this event.
